Axial Fans — selection guide

Axial Fans: 435 models, impellers Ø145–1,000 mm, maximum airflow 23–48,326 m³/h, static pressure to 3,690 Pa, AC, EC and DC motors, across 98 series. 96 of them carry a measured P-Q curve and 395 a dimensional drawing.

The axial range covers Ø145 to Ø1,000 mm in five lines that overlap in diameter but not in job. LWAA AC external-rotor fans (2-, 4-, 6- and 8-pole) are the fixed-speed workhorses for condensers and heat pumps; LWAE3G EC fans add speed control and part-load efficiency on the same mounting dimensions; LWAD3G DC fans serve 24 / 48 V and 310 V DC-bus equipment; LWWAF and LWEA industrial fans move very large volumes at low pressure in wall rings and casings; and LWMFAF / LWEAF tube axial fans handle higher pressures inside a duct.

Most models are IP54 with cold-rolled-steel or PA66 impellers, rated for −30 to +60 °C ambient (EC: −25 to +60 °C), on maintenance-free ball bearings. Three-phase 380 V and single-phase 220 / 230 V versions exist for nearly every size, and the largest EC fans (Ø500–900 mm) are three-phase.

How to select from this range

  1. Use the airflow at the coil or grille and the resistance it creates — a condenser coil and guard grille cost 30–80 Pa, which is a large share of an axial fan's pressure capability.
  2. Choose diameter for airflow and speed grade (pole count or EC speed setting) for pressure and noise; two adjacent diameters usually cover the same duty with 3–6 dB(A) difference.
  3. Stay on the falling, right-hand part of the curve. Left of the pressure peak an axial fan stalls and the noise rises sharply.
  4. For condenser pressure control, night set-back or redundancy choose EC (LWAE3G); for constant duty at lowest cost choose AC (LWAA).
  5. Match the mounting format — wall ring, guard grille, short case or long case — to the drawing before ordering; the same impeller is offered in several formats.

Where these fans are used

  • Condensers, evaporators and dry coolers
  • Heat-pump and chiller outdoor units
  • Cooling towers and transformer cooling
  • Factory and warehouse ventilation
  • Tunnel and agricultural ventilation

Every figure above is measured on our own test rigs per AMCA 210 / ISO 5801 methods — see the test labs and certificates. Final selection is confirmed at the duty point and by project validation.

FAQ — Axial Fans

What static pressure can LONGWELL axial fans handle?

The LWAA / LWAE3G external-rotor fans are selected up to about 100–400 Pa depending on diameter and speed; the tube axial LWMFAF / LWEAF line reaches 750–3,690 Pa total pressure at the cost of noise. Above the external-rotor range the selector will usually offer a mixed flow or centrifugal alternative.

How do I read the LWAA model code?

LWAA4E400S-5MEW: 4 = poles, E = single-phase (D = three-phase), 400 = impeller diameter in mm, then the mounting and impeller code. So a 4-pole single-phase Ø400 mm fan. LWAE3G is the EC platform, LWAD3G the DC platform on the same numbering.

Which axial sizes are offered in EC?

LWAE3G runs from Ø200 to Ø900 mm: Ø200–450 mm on 220 / 230 V single-phase, Ø500–900 mm on 380 / 400 V three-phase, all with 0–10 V / PWM control and feedback, IP54 or IP55.

Do you have 60 Hz or 115 V axial fans?

The AC line is built for 50 Hz 230 / 380 V as standard and many sizes are available for 60 Hz; the industrial LWEA line is offered in 110–120 V. EC fans accept 50 / 60 Hz on the same model. Filter the category by voltage or ask for the variant you need.
